Can Hypnotherapy Help Mom Entrepreneurs Break Through Hidden Blocks?

Mar 12, 2026
In the latest episode of This Mother Means Business, I had the chance to be a total student — which is one of my favourite places to be.

I sat down with hypnotherapist and coach Christina Woods to talk about something I knew almost nothing about: hypnotherapy. And while I went into the conversation curious, I left it seeing even more clearly how powerful subconscious work can be — especially for ambitious women building businesses.

If you’ve ever thought, “I know what to do… so why am I not doing it?” — this conversation is for you.

Because sometimes the issue isn’t strategy. It’s not intelligence. It’s not effort.
It’s what’s happening underneath the surface.

What Hypnotherapy Actually Is (And What It’s Not)

When most people hear “hypnosis,” they picture stage shows and swinging watches.

That’s not what this is.

Christina explained hypnotherapy using the iceberg analogy — the conscious mind is the small visible tip, and the subconscious mind is the massive portion below the surface. Roughly 95% of our behaviour is influenced by that subconscious layer.

And here’s the kicker:
You can’t access it with logic alone.
You can be insightful. Self-aware. Highly intelligent.
And still be blocked.

Hypnotherapy simply helps access that subconscious layer in a safe, conversational way so you can uncover the root of a belief — and then rewire it.

Not by force. Not by pretending.

But by updating it.

The Real Root of Limiting Beliefs

One of the most powerful parts of our conversation was this idea that many of our adult business struggles stem from small, seemingly insignificant moments earlier in life.

Not trauma.
Not necessarily dysfunction.

Sometimes just a five-minute delay at soccer pickup.
A teacher’s comment.
A comparison to a sibling.

Our younger minds attach meaning. And those meanings become beliefs.

Beliefs like:
  • If I can’t do it perfectly, I won’t start.
  • Speaking up isn’t safe.
  • Charging more will make people upset.
  • I can’t be successful and be a good mom.

These aren’t logical conclusions.
They’re protective ones.

And our subconscious mind’s only job is to keep us safe — not profitable, visible, or fulfilled.

The Hidden Block Many High-Achieving Women Carry

Christina shared something I see constantly in my own work too: high-performing women who feel “off” but don’t want to admit it.

They have:
  • beautiful families
  • successful businesses
  • comfortable lives

And yet something feels unfulfilled.

Instead of honouring that feeling, many women push it down because they feel guilty for even having it. They assume the problem must be them.

But sometimes what’s actually happening is self-abandonment.

You’re doing the thing you should be doing.
You’re performing. Hustling. Executing.

But you’re not fully aligned.

And that misalignment shows up as resentment, exhaustion, or the feeling that no amount of achievement is ever enough.

What Change Actually Feels Like

One of my favourite descriptions Christina shared came from a client who said working with her felt like:

“My windshield wipers are finally clean.”

Clarity.
Brightness.
Confidence walking into a room.

Not becoming someone new — just removing what isn’t true about you.

That’s what powerful inner work does. It doesn’t make you a different person. It helps you return to yourself.

Entrepreneurship as Personal Development

I say this all the time: entrepreneurship is one of the most intense personal development journeys you will ever go on.

Motherhood is too.

Every level of growth requires a new version of you. And often, that means confronting old beliefs you didn’t even realize were there.

Strategy matters.
Systems matter.
Execution matters.

But if there’s an internal block underneath it all, you can sabotage even the best plan.
That’s why tools like hypnotherapy, energy work, coaching, and deeper subconscious exploration aren’t fringe — they’re powerful resources.

Closing Reflection

If you’ve been feeling stuck…
If you’re doing all the “right” things but something still feels off…
If you’re craving clarity instead of more hustle…

Maybe the next step isn’t more strategy.
Maybe it’s going deeper.

Because you don’t need to become someone else to succeed.

You may just need to remove the beliefs that were never yours to carry.

And that’s work worth doing.
