Sarah Robertson-Barnes is a sustainable living educator, content creator, and writer based in the suburbs of Toronto. Through her platform Sustainable in the Suburbs, Sarah helps busy families make low-waste, plant-based, and eco-conscious choices—without the pressure to be perfect. Her work focuses on practical, real-life shifts that make sustainable living feel doable, even in a culture of convenience.
Sarah’s approach is refreshingly real. She knows that modern life is messy and full, especially when you’re raising kids, running a household, and trying to make more mindful choices along the way. That’s why she’s passionate about making sustainability feel less like an all-or-nothing commitment and more like an evolving practice. Whether it’s swapping out disposables in the kitchen, making sense of bulk shopping, or getting curious about composting, Sarah’s content meets her audience exactly where they are.
Her blog and Instagram are full of honest reflections, easy-to-implement tips, and plenty of encouragement. And coming this July, she’s expanding her mission with the launch of the Sustainable in the Suburbs podcast—a new audio space for honest conversations and actionable advice around greener living. It’s designed for people who want to make better choices without burning out in the process.
Beyond her content, Sarah also develops thoughtful digital resources like her Beginner’s Guide to a Sustainable Kitchen and customizable waste audit workbooks, offering simple tools to support families and individuals on their sustainability journey.

We’re so inspired by the work Sarah is doing to bring sustainability into the everyday—one small, meaningful step at a time.
