How to Reset Your Life and Business After a Season That Pushed You Too Far

What to Do When Growth Starts to Feel Like Too Much

There’s something I need to say out loud — because I know I’m not the only one who’s experienced this.

For the last few months, I felt like a bit of a hypocrite.

As I was preparing for This Mother Means Business Live, I took on more than I normally would. More complexity. More moving parts. More responsibility. And while it was all intentional, it also stretched me beyond what I typically allow for in my life and business.

And there was a moment — sitting at my kitchen counter — where I said out loud,
“I’m not having very much fun right now.”

That’s when I knew something needed to change.

Because growth is great… but not at the expense of your well-being.

If you’re in a season where things feel chaotic, overwhelming, or just off — this is for you.

1. Re-establish your structure (even if it fell apart)

When life gets busy, your systems are usually the first thing to go.
For me, that looked like my calendar completely blowing up. My usual rhythm — content days, client days, podcast days — all went out the window.

So the first thing I did?

I blocked off my calendar.

Not forever. Just enough to regain control.

Because if you don’t protect your time, everything else starts to spill over.

2. Go back to the boundaries you know work

I know what works for me.
I know I don’t take calls on Mondays.
I know Fridays are meant to be spacious.
I know I don’t function well when everything blends together.

But in this season? I ignored all of that.

So now, I’m going back to it.

Not because it’s rigid — but because it supports me.

3. Reconnect with the parts of your life you’ve neglected

One of the biggest things that slipped for me?

Connection.

Time with friends. Real conversations. Being present outside of business.
And while I understood why it happened, I also knew it couldn’t stay that way.
So I started reaching out. Putting things back on the calendar. Making space again.

Because your business cannot be your entire life.

4. Get back to your basic needs (yes, the simple things)

When everything feels chaotic, the answer is rarely more complexity.
It’s usually a return to the basics.

For me, that looked like:
  • Moving my body consistently again
  • Joining a Pilates studio (even though I hate it ๐Ÿ˜…)
  • Getting outside more
  • Prioritizing real food, rest, and energy
These aren’t groundbreaking strategies.

But they are the foundation of everything.

5. Be honest about what season you’re in

Here’s the truth:
Some seasons will demand more from you.

There will be moments where you:
  • Work longer hours
  • Stretch your capacity
  • Take on more than usual
And that’s okay… if it’s temporary.

The problem is when that becomes your new normal.

6. Know what you can drop (and what you can’t)

Not everything carries the same weight.

Some things can drop — and bounce.

For me, that meant:
  • Less time with friends (temporarily)
  • A shift in routines
  • A bit more flexibility than usual
But the things that cannot drop?
  • Your mental health
  • Your physical health
  • Your overall well-being
Those are non-negotiable.

7. Build your way back to “normal” intentionally

Resetting doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens because you choose it.

For me, that looks like:
  • Rebuilding my schedule
  • Recommitting to my boundaries
  • Reintroducing the things that make me feel like myself
Because I know this:
If I don’t take care of myself… none of this works.

8. You’re allowed to grow — just don’t stay in survival mode

I am someone who desires growth. I like complexity. I like building big things.
And that means I will have seasons where I push.

But I also know I have to come back.

To reset.
To recalibrate.
To take care of myself again.

And you do too.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in a season where things feel like too much…
Pause for a second.

Ask yourself:
  • What have I let slip?
  • What do I need right now?
  • And what would it look like to support myself better?
Because you don’t need to burn everything down.

You just need to come back to yourself.

And rebuild from there.
